THE BILLIONAIRE WHO CAME TO DINNER

The Story

The Billionaire Who Came To Dinner is an absurdist comedy of manners where Mary, an anxious climate-doomer, must host a fancy dinner party to support her boyfriend's corporate dreams. With a motley crew of dinner guests, the evening devolves into chaos as three candidates vie for the coveted CFO position at “The Company.”

Thematically, the film explores the absurdity of power imbalances, specifically as it relates to individual responsibility for the climate crisis. It’s also a story that revolves around taking action and nurturing hope for the future.

Project at a Glance

The Billionaire Who Came to Dinner is an American independent feature film produced and shot in New York City. Tonally inspired by old-school film productions and their overlap with theatre traditions, the film is a sort of silly chamber play with a serious interest in modern problems.

Our cast and crew are made up entirely of friends and friends of friends, who are coming together to make a truly independent film. We’re a scrappy group of young artists with decades of experience between us.

The film was specially crafted around its location, a gorgeous two-level apartment in Brooklyn Heights, and each character was written and developed for the actor who portrays them.

Status

In August 2024, a group of about twenty or so cast and crew spent ten days filming the short script (74 pages) and we’re now on the other side of principal photography. The film is currently in post-production.
